By default, Firefox updates automatically. You can always check for updates at any time, in which case an update is downloaded, but it is not installed until you restart Firefox.

Note: If you use your Linux distribution's packaged version of Firefox, you will need to wait for an updated package to be released to its package repository. This article only applies if you installed Firefox manually (without using your distribution's package manager).

Note: If you have Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard), you will need to download OS X El Capitan before you can upgrade to the latest Mac OS.   • If you are on a Mac computer with Apple Silicon and update from an older version to Firefox 84 or higher, you will need to fully exit and restart Firefox after the update (as explained here).
Important: If the update did not start, did not complete or there was some other problem, go to the Systems & Languages page to download and install the latest version of Firefox for your system and language.
